Tickle your child's fancy and bring the
serenity of the night sky into their room or nursery with
this Simple Sponge Stamping technique. Colors can be Classics
like blue, yellow, and red, or Bolds & Brights such as dandelion
and blue bird, or the colors used in our room, purple passion,
sunspot, and white.
Decide the height for the shelf; that will determine the separation of colors. Rather than divide the wall surface 50/50, for better balance use a 60/40 or 70/30 ratio with the upper wall color covering the largest portion.
Always keep in mind furniture height when determining placement of shelf because you want the shelf to be above other objects in the room. If you have a toddler, be sure the crib/bed does not allow the child access to the shelf.
Before installing the shelf, paint the top section of wall
with Latex Eggshell and use Latex Semi-Gloss on the bottom.
After the Semi-Gloss is dry, apply the glaze with a roller
and Tickle the wall surface with a feather duster while
paint is still wet. After Tickling is complete, install
the shelf. Apply star stamp randomly to the upper portion
of the room, using Latex Semi-Gloss; the Semi-Gloss provides
sheen to the stars. Paint trim and molding with white Latex
Semi-Gloss.
For added interest, consider sponge painting the top of a dresser or nightstand. The furniture can be either new, unfinished, or a flea market find. For sponging, use all the colors in the room, purple passion: sunspot, and white for sponge technique).
Friendly Note: Some feather dusters may lose feathers in the tickling process. No problem. A few feathers tickled onto the wall surface add a little texture and a bit of added color. Also, colored feathers may bleed when wet with paint, to avoid this, use natural feathers.
